Your first week
This page outlines a typical induction and your local HR team will contact you to provide more details of what you can expect.
Meeting your Team
Before you start you should recieve an email confirming where to go and when to arrive on your first day. This email may come from HR or your line manager.
On your first day, you will be welcomed by your new line manager and/or a member of your new team. Your first day should enable you to get to know your workplace and familiarise yourself with our IT systems, health and safety procedures, security and evacuation. Within your first few days you'll get a tour of the office(s), laboratories and building(s) and further opportunities to meet your team.
Essential Inductions
As well as finding out about your role and work, within the first week you will have your HR induction, and you will be provided with information regarding other inductions e.g. Health & Safety and IT.
Your local HR team will be happy to help provide more information.
Meeting HR
If you haven't already, you must provide HR with documents to prove your right to work in the UK on your first day.
In your induction with your local HR team they will provide you with:
1. your University card, which is a form of identification, and information about how to gain access to departmental buildings and rooms;
2. an account to access your computer and the departmental network, as well as an IT Services account (Single Sign-on, or 'SSO'), which grants you access to the University's IT facilities, including email and wifi;
3. an induction pack, which includes the information you can take away to read at a later stage;
4. your contract of employment for you to sign (although you may have received this before your first day). Please read it carefully, along with the terms and conditions of employment. Key terms and conditions can be found as follows:
