Cancer Biology
Our research is focused on both blood cancers (myeloid and lymphoid malignancies) and solid tumours, such as breast, colorectal, endocrine and lung cancers, with a number of drug discovery efforts and clinical trials taking place within the department. By understanding the basic biology and underlying disease mechanisms we aim to find effective new biomarkers and treatment approaches.
Single cell genomics, functional interrogation of genes involving shRNA and CRISPr/Cas9 tools, antibody technology, proteomics and high resolution subcellular imaging are key technologies employed in this endeavour. Our research efforts in cancer biology are complemented by strengths in haematology, pathology, immunology and stem cell biology.
Our researchers lead the NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre’s Haematology Theme and work closely with Cancer and Immunology Themes, the Department of Oncology, the Ludwig Institute of Cancer and the Kennedy Institute to accelerate translational research.
