Professor Douglas Higgs awarded the Buchanan Medal
23 July 2013
Professor Douglas Higgs, head of the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine at Oxford University, has been awarded the Buchanan Medal by the Royal Society for his outstanding work on the regulation of the human alpha-globin gene cluster. His group uses this system as a model to understand how human genes are switched on and off in cells. They use this information to improve the management of patients with human genetic disease.
