IF Oxford returns as a digital and in-real-life science and ideas Festival with events running throughout October 2024.

IF Oxford 2024

There’s something for everyone, with activities for young children and families, or sessions for teenagers and adults to enjoy alone or as a group in venues across Oxford or from the comfort of home.

Pick from pioneering performances, hands-on experiments, interactive events and more.

RDM researchers are involved in three events this year:

Ironclad: how liveable planets, beaver’s teeth and vaccines are linked

Hal Drakesmith and Jon Wade will give a whistle-stop tour of the last 4.6 billion years covering the formation of our planetary home, the evolution of complex life and dramatize the story of iron – a crucial element in your world - and its role in driving infections and illnesses.

Monday 14 October, 6.30pm - 7.30pm at the Wig and Pen.

How and why we edit genes

Explore gene editing in this interactive session with researchers from the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine where you will discover some of the techniques scientists use to edit DNA and how these modified genes could be useful for treating different diseases.

Saturday 12 October, between 11.00am - 5.00pm at the Wesley Memorial Church OX1 2DH (part of the Explorazone), and Monday 28 October, 11.00am - 5.00pm at The Barn, Greater Leys (part of the BLAST! Science and Technology Zone).

Wherever you are in the world, IF Oxford brings you live and on-demand science, ideas and creativity with the chance to meet people making innovations today to change your world tomorrow.

All activities, including information on how to book, are available at: www.if-oxford.com.

Your Cells and Sugar

Come and meet Daniela Nasteska and Charlotte Frazer-Morris and learn about how the cells in your body rely on sugar to fuel everything it does, and how your pancreas keeps your blood sugar in balance. You will also learn how our scientists are studying these processes and get hands-on with experiments.

Monday 28 October, 11.00am – 5.00pm at The Barn, Greater Leys 0X4 7BU (part of the BLAST! Science and Technology Zone).
