Although previously a bench scientist working on bacterial genomics, my current work focuses on the organisation and visualisation of data from Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) experiments e.g. ChIP-Seq, ATAC-Seq, CaptureC. Such experiments generate vast quantities of sequencing data, which is usually automatically processed, generating the final results. However, it can be difficult to get a handle on the validity of these results without inspecting the underlying data. To this end, Multi Locus View (MLV) was developed, which is a web application that enables users to look at such experimental data as a whole. By using interactive graphs, images and tables, users can review all the information generated from NGS experiments and make informed decisions. It is comprised of two standalone JavaScript components, MLVPanel that enables the simultaneous visualisation and interaction with multiple genomic regions and CIView that allows the filtering and visualisation of 100 000s of data points. The ‘backend’ enables ways of running pipelines through a web interface, either locally on the server or via remote clusters. Built on top of this technology are two specific applications, Lanceotron that enables the identification of peaks in Chip-Seq experiments, using machine learning and CaptureSee that allows the visualisation of all the viewpoints in highly multiplexed CaptureC experiments.
