Harsha Dissanayake
DTU Research Associate
Harsha is a Lecture in Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He joined the DTU as a research associate in 2022.
Harsha obtained his MBBS from the Faculty of Medicine University of Colombo in 2013 and gained MD in Medicine from Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo in 2019. He commenced specialty training in Diabetes and Endocrinology in Sri Lanka in 2019 and moved to OCDEM in 2022 for overseas clinical training as a Clinical Fellow. He received the Clarendon Scholarship from University of Oxford and will commence his DPhil at Oxford in research focusing on body fat distribution and lipid disorders in 2023.
His research interests are in diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome. He has published research with a focus on epidemiology of non-communicable diseases in South Asia as well as on the impact of COVID-19 on metabolic and endocrine disorders and has contributed to several books, chapters and national guidelines in diabetes and endocrinology. He is the recipient of several awards including Merit Award for Scientific Research (National Research Council, Sri Lanka 2018 – 2020), President’s Award for Scientific Research (National Science Foundation, Sri Lanka 2020, 2021), University of Colombo Senate Commendations for Excellence in Research (2020, 2021) and Young Researcher Award at Sri Lanka Endocrine Congress 2019.
