The Precision Cellular Medicine Blood & Transplant Research Unit (BTRU) is pleased to announce the recruitment of an additional PhD student Zareen Deplano to work as part of Dr Joht Chandan’s group at the University of Birmingham.
Funding for the project was awarded by the National Institute of Health Research to NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) with the aim of increasing our understanding of health inequalities in cellular therapies.
The project builds on existing work within the Blood & Transplant Research Unit. It will look at integration and interrogation of existing NHS data sets with the goal of identifying the unmet need for transplantation related to ethnicity and socioeconomic status.
Combining this additional post with the established BTRU allows more rapid initiation of the project and strengthens the knowledge generated by the BTRU. Close collaborative working between the BTRU research team and the NHSBT Medical Director, Dr James Griffin to supervise the project further integrates the BTRU into the work carried out by NHSBT.
