Coming for a Scan
As of 23 December 2020 OCMR is still open and scanning as usual. Government guidance states that medical appointments should continue so if you have a scan booked with us in the future, your appointment will go ahead as normal unless we phone to tell you otherwise.
Most patients and participants come to OCMR for a cardiac MRI scan (CMR), that is, a scan of the heart. For that reason this information concentrates on the heart, however it can also be applied to the liver and brain.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a safe test that uses magnets, radio waves and a computer to make detailed pictures of the heart and its internal blood vessels. The scan creates both still and moving pictures to look at the structure of your heart and how it is working.
Prior to the scan you will be given a full explanation of what to expect. OCMR staff are very experienced and will answer any questions you might have before, during and after the scan.
If you are coming for a scan and have not been to OCMR before, please see our page on how to find OCMR.
