The Radcliffe Department of Medicine is pleased to offer staff the opportunity to take part in a new leadership programme.

The word leader in wooden letter tiles

Who is the programme for?

The programme will provide support, guidance, and resources to empower individuals working in RDM to become better leaders. It is designed for professionals of any gender.

Places are limited to 12 people, so participants may have to be selected on the basis of their application, according to the criteria below.

Selection criteria

Applicants should:

  1. be considering what they want to step into next in their career
  2. be coming towards the end of a first post-doc or doing a second post-doc (if academic) or looking to develop as a team leader (likely to be grades 6-8 if professional support staff)
  3. have measurable academic achievements (such as first author publication(s), awards or prizes) (if academic)
  4. have some experience of leadership (such as supervision of research assistants or students; line-management of colleagues; or leadership responsibilities outside the work environment)
  5. not have attended similar workshops/leadership courses in the past.

Training in leadership skills and professional/career development are key areas that were highlighted as top priorities in the latest University-wide staff survey, including in RDM. Participation should not only benefit the individual personally, but also contribute to a more inclusive and diverse environment within the Department.

Programme details

The programme, which is led by executive coach and leadership consultant Milly Sinclair, offers a structured curriculum covering a range of topics tailored to the needs and challenges you face in your work and leadership. Through a series of interactive sessions, workshops, and one-to-one coaching sessions, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Navigate challenges specific to your career stage
  • Build a supportive network
  • Enhance personal and professional growth
  • Develop leadership skills and strategies for career advancement

The programme will start on Wednesday 4 September 2024 and will consist of four workshops and five coaching sessions (two one-to-one sessions and three peer group sessions) over five to six months (see the RDM Leadership Programme Outline for dates and times).

How to apply

If you would like to apply, please make sure you will be able to attend all workshops and sessions, then complete the RDM Leadership Programme application form and return it to communications@rdm.ox.ac.uk by 5.00pm on Monday 22 July.
