Tell us a bit about your role
I obtained an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and a PhD in Cell Biology. I then performed postdoctoral work in the USA and obtained my first, independent faculty position in the USA where I was for 10 years. I moved to Oxford 5 years ago. I have a very supportive husband who is also a scientist and is incredibly understanding of the career/job needs.
What is the most meaningful aspect of your work?
Mentoring, seeing trainees become confident, independent scientists and working with colleagues to bring ideas into fruition!
Can you tell us about something you've done, contributed to that you're most proud of?
I am proud of all the trainees that have come through the lab and seeing them accomplish their goals and have successes in their careers. I am also proud of all the papers we have published along the way, seeing everyone’s efforts realised into a finished product is extremely satisfactory.
What changes would you most like to see in the Medical Sciences in the next 100 years?
Obviously better representation of women and minorities in the Medical Sciences field, realisable through education, active encouragement to participate and increased funding by government and charities.
