Department Structure
History
RDM is one of the largest departments in Oxford University. It was created in 2012 to bring together academic units from various existing departments which specialised in related themes, and to provide a home department for the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine.
Purpose
Our shared academic endeavours and disciplines include cardiovascular sciences, diabetes and endocrinology, immunology, haematology and pathology, and working together across RDM gives cohesion and critical mass. Collaboration across the RDM divisions is close and productive, with joint sponsorship of major projects and senior recruitment. Our ultimate aim is patient benefit, through improved understanding, diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Structure
RDM benefits from a devolved administrative structure and each Division is led by a Head of Division, with the support of a Lead Administrator or Business Manager and a local administrative team who are your first point of contact.
In addition to these divisions, RDM has a central strategic administrative team (RDMS) assisting the Head of Department, Heads of Divisions, senior academics, Principal Investigators and Lead Administrators with complex projects and strategic initiatives. RDMS also supports RDM-wide activities such as graduate studies; research funding and strategy; career development; training; equality, diversity and inclusion; mentoring; outreach and communications.
