Professor David Kerr is part of a Lancet Oncology commission which is urging action to curb a growing cancer crisis in sub-Saharan Africa, with cancer deaths in this region expected to reach 1 million a year by 2030.
The commission's authors, including Professor Kerr, detail the state of cancer care and incidence in sub-Saharan Africa, and recommend key actions.
This includes health policy changes, and in an article, Professor Kerr describes how the impact of individual patient consultation and research is amplified many fold by effective health policy, and urges policy makers towards this 'amplified good'.
