My DPhil research focuses on the circadian regulation of macrophages, a key cell type in the innate immune system. The ability of macrophages to mount an inflammatory response varies with time-of-day in a circadian manner. Looking at the macrophage transcriptome and epigenome, I’m working to understand how exactly the circadian timing machinery is regulating inflammatory responses. Understanding how macrophages are regulated by time will help us understand how to manipulate them for therapeutic treatments, as well as how to better manage inflammatory diseases.
