Matthew Poynton
Clinical Research Fellow and DPhil student
I am a haematologist working at Oxford University Hospitals having completed his training with distinction at Imperial College London. I was an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Haematology where he developed research interests in patient reported outcome measures and quality of life in anaemia driven disorders. I am now completing a DPhil in Medical Sciences under the supervision of Prof Simon Stanworth to further focus on these research interests having been awarded a clinical research fellowship with NHS Blood and Transplant. This work includes conducting a trial – WATCH Transfused – to explore using multiple methods to improve quality of life and the efficacy of transfusion supportive care in people with blood cancers undergoing chemotherapy.
I am also interested in education and has also worked as an Education Fellow with NHS Blood and Transplant where, in collaboration with the Royal College of Pathology and NHS England, I developed and populated the transfusion content of the Pathology Portal - a new educational resource in Transfusion medicine and Transfusion Science.
